Poppy came to us from Romania as one of a litter of 5 puppies with their mum Nemura in December 2016. She was soon snapped up and went off to have her happy ever after…. Sadly though due to family circumstances she will be coming back into our care. Her mum is devastated.
Poppy is probably about 2 ½ years old. She is a sweet black and white whippet cross. And guess what.. she is CAT FRIENDLY!
She loves being with people and doing jobs with them. She loves exercise, jumping around the house, chasing and catching a ball, she loves agility too. She loves playing with her ball, tug toys, she enjoys a treat but isn’t treat led, she loves to chew on bones. She loves a cuddle when she knows you and is very affectionate. She loves sleeping on the sofa but also in her crate on her pillows. She loves watching the world go by, watching the birds and squirrels in the garden.
Poppy shares her toys really well, she’ll often give them to other dogs. She’s fine with traffic, although she would chase anything moving if off lead including cars!
When off lead she is really good with other dogs but like a lot of sighthounds finds initial meets on the lead a bit difficult. She loves playing chase with other big dogs and loves to play with her labradoodle friend in a local paddock.
She has been living with three cats and as long as they’re confident and stand up to her she’s fabulous with them. We have an old cat who’s gone deaf and Poppy will help her upstairs, find her and herd her to us if she’s crying when lost in the house. She’s a fantastic dog and so sweet.
On lead Poppy doesn’t pull and she listens to commands, but she will bark at other dogs, she has a particular dislike to white dogs and terriers, she’ll bark at bikes.
Poppy loves scent games around the house and garden, finding her food and her toys that I hide for her, I always have to find new places as she’s very clever. She can do sit, lie down, turn around, up on her back legs, paw, touch, stay and wait. She loves bitey face with other dogs. She is getting better at being brushed and groomed but it’s not her favourite thing. She loves rolling in fox poo, cow pats and anything else smelly!
Poppy can be an only dog or will happily live with another dog. She is looking for a calm household with not too many comings and goings, as the chaotic dynamics of her current household are very stressful for her.
