Gorgeous 3 year old Xena is in our care and this is what her foster mom has to say about her…..
I have only had Xena 1 week, so I likely have not seen her true temperament. She is crate trained, happy to sleep in it, and happy to be left alone in it (either all alone or with snoopy in the next crate over) for at least 2 hours. I haven’t tried longer. She needs a crate and access to it at all times. She will never be able to go on furniture or just have a dog bed in a corner of the room – a crate is a must!! (She can be dominant) She is clean In the house, and although she does steal shoes and personal items she doesn’t chew them. She travels well in the car. She’s very affectionate, but on her own terms. She eats raw food only, although I give her pieces of dry food as treats. She walks beautifully on the lead and has clearly had some training. Our current assessment is that she needs to keep training to keep her brain active, otherwise she will revert to guarding behaviour. She plays extremely rough, so should not be allowed to run with other dogs, but that might change. She will need a home that is willing to continue with her brain training and go to classes with her. This will likely be lifelong. On the plus side she really enjoys this training and would love a human to enjoy it with her. She might be fine with a male dog, no female, or as an only dog.
