Cara

Cara’s story is one of quiet resilience. She was found as a stray in the pound many years ago, emaciated and very shut down. She went into foster care and, 5 years ago, was adopted by her foster mum, where she’s been deeply loved and well cared for ever since. Sadly, due to her mum’s illness and the recent loss of her husband, Cara is now looking for a new home through no fault of her own.

Cara is a gentle, affectionate girl, around 8 years old, weighing approx. 28kg and standing 23 inches to the shoulder. She’s vaccinated, flea and worm treated.

She loves her walks and is lovely on the lead, she doesn’t pull and generally potters along happily. Like most lurchers, Cara does have prey drive and can get excited if she spots a cat or wants to play with another dog. She lives with another older hound and has happily shared her home with many foster dogs over the years, getting on well with all of them. She’s sociable with other dogs, especially other hounds, and adores a game of chase.

In the home, Cara is an absolute dream. She’s not reactive, can be left for up to 4 hours without any separation anxiety, and is completely clean in the house. She’ll gently let you know if she needs to go out, doesn’t counter surf, and isn’t destructive. She’s a quiet girl too and only really barks occasionally when she’s playing.

Cara is raw fed and very food motivated, mealtimes are her favourite part of the day! She currently sleeps in her double donut bed in her mum’s bedroom and has free rein of the house, which she respects beautifully. When out and about, she’ll settle nicely at a café, especially if there’s a little treat involved. She enjoys fuss from people, will happily sit to be stroked, and is very patient with respectful children.

Cara could live as an only dog as long as her people are around quite a lot, she does enjoy company, even if she mostly spends the day snoozing. She’d also be very happy in a home with another friendly dog to potter about with and play from time to time.

Cara is a truly lovely, easy-going hound who’s had her world turned upside down through no fault of her own. She’s hoping for a calm, loving home where she can enjoy her walks, her naps, and all the affection she deserves.
