Lurcher SOS is a Sighthound Rescue in Surrey
We have a network of supporters, fundraisers and foster homes in Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Derbyshire, and Hertfordshire, but we home our dogs throughout England, Wales and Scotland.
We are all volunteers and our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and home abused, abandoned and neglected Sighthounds across the UK, including Lurchers, Greyhounds, Whippets and Salukis as well as other types of Sighthound. Most of our hounds come from Ireland and the UK, but we are proud to help Cypriot, Romanian and Egyptian Sighthounds! Recently we have launched Project Galgo, whose main aim is to help Spanish Greyhounds (known as Galgos) who suffer terrible lives at the hands of their hunting owners (Galgueros). More about that coming soon.
Lurcher SOS takes in Sighthounds of all ages; from puppies to oldies. These dogs come to us for various reasons – some are strays, some have been ill treated and sadly, some of these dogs are so emotionally and physically scarred that they will need long periods in foster homes, learning to trust humans again.
Our priority will always be dogs due to be put to sleep, or dogs in danger both in Ireland, the UK and abroad. We will also try to help other Sighthound rescues wherever possible. Rehoming direct from private individuals will rarely be considered.
All our dogs are placed in warm and loving foster homes where they are carefully assessed and, if needed, rehabilitated. We do not have kennels as we believe that a home environment is the best way to assess a hound, and this enables us to best match a dog with a prospective adopter.
All Lurcher SOS rescue dogs are neutered (where possible) and given full veterinary treatment, microchipped and vaccinated, wormed and deflead before going to their new homes.
In 10 years we have rehomed over 725 Lurchers, Greyhounds and other Sighthounds.
We are a non-profit organization and receive no funding. We rely solely on donations from the public and are always in need of fundraising support to cover the cost of the care of our dogs. We are always actively seeking new foster parents and permanent homes for our rescue dogs. For more information on how you can get involved please look at our Help Us page.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our site. Please bookmark us and come back to visit again soon. Our dogs for adoption change frequently as we take in new dogs all the time.
