Running for Pingu: Alexander’s Marathon in Support of Lurcher SOS
On 3rd May 2026, Alexander will be taking on the Southampton Marathon, and we are truly honoured that he has chosen to support Lurcher SOS through his fundraising efforts!
Alexander is running in loving memory of his beloved Pingu, a Dalmatian x Lurcher who clearly lived a life full of love, care and companionship. Like so many of the dogs we help, Pingu’s story is a reminder of just how special these dogs are and the deep bonds they form with the people who love them.
Turning grief into something positive is never easy, but Alexander’s decision to run in Pingu’s memory is both moving and inspiring. By taking on this challenge, he hopes to make a difference to the lives of other lurchers in need, giving them the same chance of a happy, secure life that Pingu enjoyed.
At Lurcher SOS, our work focuses on rescuing sighthounds at risk, particularly those in danger of being put to sleep. We place all of our dogs into loving foster homes, where they can be properly assessed and begin their journey towards rehabilitation. This approach allows us to truly understand each dog’s needs and match them with the right forever home.
As a non-profit organisation with no external funding, we rely entirely on donations and fundraising to continue our work. Supporters like Alexander play a vital role in helping us provide medical care, safe foster placements and, ultimately, a second chance for the dogs in our care.
We are incredibly grateful to Alexander for choosing Lurcher SOS as the beneficiary of his marathon run. His kindness and determination will have a real and lasting impact on the dogs we are able to help.
We would love for our community to get behind Alexander as he prepares for race day. If you are able, please consider making a donation to support his fundraiser or sharing his page to help spread the word. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us continue saving lives.
From all of us at Lurcher SOS, and from the dogs whose futures will be changed because of this effort, thank you, Alexander. We wish you the very best of luck on marathon day!
